Johnjames Bruce is an independent/unsigned songwriter who comes from the old town of Accrington Lancashire

During his teenage years and early twenties he played bass guitar for various local punk and rock bands including The Irrelevants, Relentless Craving and still plays bass guitar for Rufus Garside.

Over the past few years Johnjames has turned to the six string in order to write some acoustic based songs which reflect his faith and life.

While allowing his alternative punk, post punk and rock influences to come through, other folk and roots influences also add to his overall sound, these influences include artists such as Jon Foreman, Kevin Morby, Frank Turner, Sean Rowe, Brian Fallon, Bellowhead, 6'10 and many more.

His performances are often a 'one man band' set up consisting of an Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, a Stomp box and a loop pedal.

Providing flexibility to be able to play anything from the Festival stages to busking.

For this album, Johnjames has tried to pull from his various songwriting influences to create an acoustic alternative rock/post punk sound.

As an album Mountains varies dynamically both lyrically and musically from the opening Track 'Let your kingdom come' being a prayer for revival to 'If I could freeze a moment' were Johnjames recognises some of his failings while reflecting upon family life, and 'Sail Away'...A song where Johnjames calls for love and unity in a world that can seem divided.

...This is a truly heart on sleeve album where nothing has been left behind.

Johnjames had the privilege to work alongside Dan Stirling (Dan Stirling Audio) who recorded, Produced, mixed, mastered and added some electric guitars, synths and drum sounds. Dan has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to producing and has produced E.Ps and albums for artists such as Rivers & Robots, Emma Grant, The Found and many more.

"Mr Bruce's muse is closer to home. Here are lyrical concerns which reflect the ordinary world of slippers, tea, biscuits and visits to Chester Zoo, always within the context of faith. John's is a big voice: bizarre, surreal and anarchic, a voice reminiscent of Ian Curtis of Joy Division, of Nick Cave (of the Bad Seeds)."
